Kings of Leon – Short Biography:
Kings of Leon, founded in 1999 in Nashville U.S., is a rock band that has developed their music to cover various genres. The band members are family members: three brothers and their cousin: Anthony Caleb Followill (who writes most of the lyrics), Ivan Nathan Followill, Michael Jared Followill and Cameron Matthew Followill (cousin). Until 2010 Kings of Leon have released five albums: Youth and Young Manhood in 2003, Aha Shake Heartbreak in 2004, Because of the Times 2007, Only by the Night in 2008 and Come Around Sundown in 2010.
Their first two albums were not as successful domestically in the United States in comparison to United Kingdom and Ireland. First album, Youth and Young Manhood, received critical or modest reviews in the United States. Nevertheless, it was a breakthrough in Ireland and United Kingdom. New Musical Express (a British pop-music magazine) considered it as one of the best debut albums in the last decade in 2003. Furthermore, Kings of Leon was selected to tour with for example U2. The significance of the market in the United Kingdom and Ireland can be considered very important for Kings of Leon. It took until 2008 that the band’s songs reached the charts in the United States. Their global breakthrough occurred thru their fourth album Only by the Night. Kings of Leon released their fifth album Come Around Sundown in October 2010. A remix album has been announced before the release of Come Around Sundown. This remix album would include several stars (Justin Timberlake, Linkin Park, Pharrel Williams etc.).
Their most popular songs of the band include for instance Sex on Fire, Use Somebody, Be Somebody, Reverly, On Call, Notion and Closer.
Their latest album, Come around Sundown, consists of thirteen songs, the first of which is ironically called “The End“. The lead single of the album is called “Radioactive“. The genre of the latest album can be called a return to the roots of the southern boogie -genre of the band with a mix of various influences (The Killers, Vampire Weekend and features of doo-wop).
In addition to their great studio albums, Kings of Leon are sensational and most entertaining live performers. They have mostly toured in the United Kingdom, locally in the United states and in Europe.
